A semblance of civilization.

Boiled shrimp, chicken alfredo, blueberry wine, cigars, arcade gaming, The Nightmare Before Christmas and a dangerous conglomeration of fatigue toxins and Pounders’ methane. This is a meager example of the cross-section of what our guests delighted in at the get-together on Saturday.

Our house, while not completely organized and straightened up from the (continuing) move, is still in good enough shape to actually do some entertaining. All I can say is this… we warned everyone that once we got a house of our own and all our shit out of storage, that we would be a force to be reckoned with. By all accounts everyone had a good time. We have a metric ass-ton of stuff to keep everyone entertained — a comfy smoking area, arcade games, computers, televisions, quiet areas to go and talk as well as large communal areas to congregate and hang-out. Guess what folks… this was just a warm-up for the actual Halloween party on Friday.

I’d like to thank everyone who came and helped/hung out, no matter how long they stayed. A great big "gracias!" goes out to everyone who chipped in some food and drink, most notably to my in-laws who came through with a massive amount of shrimp to boil. They’ve both done so much to help us with the house — financially and physically — that I don’t think I can ever thank them enough… and then they keep surprising us with treats like this.

We had some very noteworthy absences, namely Krazy, GonzO, Heather, Jen and Will. Krazy was likely chewing on the bar at work in mute frustration that he couldn’t attend. GonzO and Heather refused to come, leaning heavily on their "We live thousands of miles away" excuse. Again. But, I understand they did a hefty amount of partying of their own. Jen managed to damn near twist her foot off, and Will had to be on hand to "tend" to her, so, I guess I’ll accept that as an excuse. This time. We drank a toast to you all, as undeserving as you were of it.

It’s official, I’m without internet at home for a very little while — which is good, I guess, seeing as my computers and the associated paraphernalia are sitting in piles on the floor of the den. I should be back on the air come Thursday evening… provided the ADSL installer isn’t a total incompetent jizz-rope. The chances are pretty good that he will be, judging from my past history, both personally and professionally, with communication installers. *sigh*

Pumpkin Carving Party. Thursday. 7:00pm. Be there.

We have ten pumpkins to mutilate, and they’re on a first-come-first-serve basis. In the event that we have more pumpkins than willing participants, then we will shackle you to the ironwork on the patio and force you to slave over another. Mwa-ha-ha! *ahem* We have plenty of patterns and tools. Bring yo’sef and anything special you might require. No chainsaws, please. Oh, and somebody tell Sancho, as I have lost his cell number and he apparently doesn’t read blogs too often.

i’m comin a crashin. mostly cuz i was told to do so. and i’m staying til sunday-ish.

    yeah!!!!

  2. I see how it is – you don’t call, you don’t e-mail AND THEN you don’t add us to your list of "some very noteworthy absences" – I see how it is – fine – FINE – NO COCONUTS FOR YOU!

Listen here, buddy. We have had an empty and cobwebbed spot in our hearts since you and Harold left town, and the ache is especially sharp during the month of October. C’mon, you know what I mean. The weather starts to cool a bit, the sunlight slants a little more in the afternoons. I usually have an irresistible urge to stop at convenience stores and load up on fountain drinks, chips and other snacks to enjoy while I drive, owing to the fact that we lived on a diet of that crap during Haunted Mansion, and I was commuting from New Orleans to Baton Rouge — and that’s what kept me alive during the drive.

I didn’t feel the need to list you guys as a "noteworthy absence" for that party because I take it for granted that y’all know you are sorely missed during this season. Nary a Halloween related thought goes through my thick skull that doesn’t have "Steve and Harold" attached to it. It’s a permanent association in my mind. Every year we send you an invitation to our parties (the invites were verbal this year, and I think I have sufficiently teased you enough about showing up to more than satisfy even the most skeptical of invitees). We know full well that y’all cannot come, but hope against hope that one year we’ll get a knock on the door by a suitably costumed unexpected duo, suitcases in hand.

As far as calling goes, well, we were waiting till Rhonda and I could be in the same room (other than sleeping) to do so, so that we can both talk to you. My mom busted up her leg, and I’ve been working at the new house in the evenings while she’s been babysitting her. I get home in time to go to sleep, and not much else. Actually, talk to GonzO if you already haven’t — we’ve cooked up a scheme for Halloween (and the Thursday before — pumpkin carving night) that will far surpass an ordinary phone call… if we can pull it off, and if my ADSL is up and working. Email is out till that point, too.

So, bite me bat-boy, and have a Happy Halloween while you’re at it.

  4. Wow – I had no idea you had become a Rabbi – wow!

LOL – I love you too and I hate that we are not there and that you guys are not here. I did indeed talk to Gonzo last night about the web cams – We can not do it during the party (well there might be a way) as the camera is on the big screen in the living room and we have that hooked up to the Bose system and I have all this incredible visual stuff (better than Argon even) – so that screen is pumping the dance floor all night – but – perhaps – we could have the camera on and running and your feed behind the visuals which we could switch to from time to time – you guys would get a constant feed of us…. I will talk to Gonzo some more tonight – we are carving pumpkins tonight and food prep tomorrow night – maybe we could try to hook up the cameras tonight…..even.

Love you both and miss you like no tomorrow – I wish I could open my eyes tomorrow morning and it is the first weekend of October and I am lying on a shit-ass-flat mattress underneath Rhonda’s bunk where the two of you are quietly talking and Krazy is asking Linda for Cookies and in an hour we will all be heading over to Hodges…..
