{"id":183,"date":"2008-02-07T01:07:00","date_gmt":"2008-02-07T07:07:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2008-09-11T10:29:53","modified_gmt":"2008-09-11T16:29:53","slug":"154","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dmentd.com\/blog\/154","title":{"rendered":"Aberystwyth Bound \u2014 Part 7."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, um, yeah.\u00a0 I think I should likely finish this account of my trip before I make the next one in June.\u00a0 We&#8217;re nearing the end folks, bear with me.<\/p>\n<p>Consider this a peek into how my OC brain works&#8230; I simply <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">must<\/span> finish this up before I allow myself to progress forward with new posts,\u00a0 I have a lot to talk about, such as my hunt for a house of my own in Austin.\u00a0 So, here we go.\u00a0 Likely only one more post after this one.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Journal Entry \u2014 September 19th: Postcard-O-Rama<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wednesday we really did a good job of sleeping in.\u00a0 We showered, bundled up and started out walk into town in the rain.\u00a0 I optimistically brought out my travel umbrella, and ten minutes later folded it&#8217;s battered body back up and resigned myself to walking in the gentle rain.\u00a0 Regular umbrellas, much less small travel ones, are not up to the task of surviving the Welsh wind.\u00a0 Fortunately the rain wasn&#8217;t so bad the my jacket wasn&#8217;t enough to hold it off.<\/p>\n<p>We made our way to Jackabouts, a pancake restaurant of sorts.\u00a0 English pancakes are closer to cr\u00eapes in texture and thickness, and what I&#8217;m used to \u2014 American style \u2014 are sweeter, thicker ones.\u00a0 The menu offered a Scotch breakfast \u2014 two Scotch pancakes (closer to the American variety of silver-dollar pancakes), scrambled eggs, a sausage patty and saut\u00e9ed mushrooms.<\/p>\n<p>After eating I sat and wrote out all of the postcards I had for everyone.\u00a0 Damn, I hate writing longhand&#8230; which is why I spend so much time writing in this damned book.\u00a0 Sweets, ever so polite, didn&#8217;t point out that she was bored out of her skull watching me.\u00a0 After what seemed like an eternity, I finally wrapped up and we went to the post office for postage, and to drop them in the mail.<\/p>\n<p>Returned home, relaxed and visited with everyone.\u00a0 Ate dinner at home (shock!) and eventually we found our way to bed.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Journal Entry \u2014 September 20th: Devil&#8217;s Bridge<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thursday we planned a trip to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Devil\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Devil&#8217;s Bridge<\/strong><\/a>, a journey taken by steam train.\u00a0 Walked to the station, stopping to pick up snack and sammich fixins for the trip.\u00a0 The train, while smaller than I was originally expecting, was still pretty cool.\u00a0 We climbed aboard and the trip began.<\/p>\n<p>The train was bumpy, noisy, and utterly fantastic.\u00a0 Lots of beautiful countryside and sheep (again&#8230; and rails placed across the path every 60&#8242; or so to stop the falling and tumbling idiots who lost their footing.\u00a0 No thanks, I like my skull the shape it is right now.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a rel=\"lightbox[g2image]\" href=\"http:\/\/dmentd.com\/gallery\/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&amp;g2_itemId=3101&amp;g2_GALLERYSID=TMP_SESSION_ID_DI_NOISSES_PMT\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/dmentd.com\/gallery\/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&amp;g2_itemId=3102&amp;g2_GALLERYSID=TMP_SESSION_ID_DI_NOISSES_PMT\" alt=\"\" width=\"113\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Climbed back up the path (ugh!), sweating and puffing the entire way.\u00a0 But we had ice-cream at the top, so there&#8217;s a happy trade-off!\u00a0 Made the train with time to spare, and we started back home.\u00a0 I managed to only nod off a few times \u2014 the bumping and swaying of the train was rocking me blissfully to sleep.<\/p>\n<p>After returning to the station we started back home with a quick stop-off at the grocery to pick up dinner and provisions.\u00a0 Made it home, relaxed and visited a bit, ate dinner and relaxed some more.\u00a0 Played some Cell Damage on the X-Box&#8230;
